Questions before you join
Do I need to speak Italian?
Not at all. Our talks, film nights and dinners are open to anyone who loves Italy, whatever their Italian. If you would like to learn, our courses start from the very first word.
Do I need Italian roots?
No. Our members are Americans in love with Italy and Italian Americans rediscovering their heritage, from all walks of life. A love for Italian culture is all it takes.
Can I come to an event before joining?
Yes, many of our events welcome guests. Come to one, meet us, and join when you are ready. Some evenings carry a small ticket fee to cover the venue, the wine and the food.
How much does membership cost?
There are four levels: Studente at $65 a year, Cavaliere at $150, Medici at $500 and Granduca at $1,000. Cavaliere invites you and a guest to every event of the year.
What level of Italian do I need for your course?
None at all: beginners are warmly welcome. A short level assessment form helps us place you in the right group.
Is my membership tax-deductible?
Yes. The Dante Alighieri Society of Charleston is a nonprofit, and memberships are fully tax-deductible.
