DECEMBER 1, 2025 – Extraordinary evening with author David Ladensohn, an amazing opportunity to talk about Leonardo da Vinci from a very unique angle.
His fascinating work “Fly Fishing with Leonardo da Vinci” explores the RenaissanceItalian genius, blending biography, travel writing, and natural history. Ladensohn weaved together his own experiences as an angler with Leonardo’s meticulous studies of water, nature, and movement.
The evening was coordinated by David DiBenedetto, senior vice president and editor in chief of Garden & Gun. He is the author of On the Run: An Angler’s Journey Down the Striper Coast and the cohost of The Wild South podcast.
Ladensohn’s book reveals how Leonardo’s lifelong fascination with water—its physical properties, its patterns, its shaping force on the natural world—resonates deeply with the observational skills at the heart of fly-fishing. Through this lens, Leonardo emerges not only as an artist and inventor but also as an ideal fishing companion, attuned to the subtleties of rivers and streams.
Enhanced by illustrations of da Vinci’s original drawings, Fly-Fishing with Leonardo da Vinci is both insightful and accessible, inviting readers—whether seasoned anglers, lovers of Renaissance culture, or simply the curious—to experience Leonardo in a fresh and engaging way.
